About the Stables

This beautiful heritage building, nestled in Coronet Park, is one of the oldest working stables in the municipality. Built in 1886 as part of a private property, the stables were initially designed to lodge six horses. They have since been reported to have had many uses, including storing produce and accommodating the Light Horse Brigade during World War II.

Following significant community input and guidance from the Steering Group, the tender for running Crown Street Stables was awarded to our Aged and Disability Services team. This decision was made after a lengthy and thorough review process.

Plans are moving forward to activate this vital community hub for locals, ensuring it remains a hall for hire for community groups and providing employment opportunities at the centre for those with a disability.

Please note: smoking is prohibited within 4 metres of the Crown Street Stables building and within 10 metres of the play equipment in Coronet Park. Coronet Park, including Crown Street Stables, is a designated dry area, meaning no alcohol can be consumed within the park or in the building.

Hall for hire

The upstairs room at Crown Street Stables is available for community or private hire with a capacity for up to 60 people.

For more information and prices, please read the 2016/17 Crown Street Stables Terms and Conditions (pdf, 1.4MB) or contact the booking officer on 9243 8748.
