Summer fruit preserving
Summer is the time to start thinking of making the most of your garden produce and how to stock your pantry with rows of beautiful jars to see you through next winter and spring. Let Maria Ciavarella step you through tried and tested Italian preserving methods, from bottled tomatoes and fruit to jams, chutneys and relishes, plus tips on pickling your own olives. This session will be part demonstration, part hands-on workshop, with plenty of tastings of course!
This workshop is part of the National Sustainable Living Festival 2017.

Clean Up Australia Day

In the past 26 years, Australians have devoted more than 31 million hours towards the environment through Clean Up Australia Day and each year, ‘team Moonee Valley’ gets into actions as well! Jump onto the Clean Up Australia Day site and find a Moonee Valley registered site to join or create your own.
DIY Wicking Garden Bed
Did you know wicking beds can use up to 50 per cent less water than normal gardens by holding a reservoir of water in the base of the bed that ‘wicks’ up through the soil, reducing evaporation? Learn how to build a wicking garden bed while helping the Men's Shed construct one at this workshop.

Fruit Trees and Winter Pruning
Winter is the perfect time for pruning to maintain the size and shape of your fruit trees. It also activates dormant buds to produce fruiting spurs which means a better crop in the summer months. Come to this free workshop, with the experts from Werribee Park Heritage Orchard, and learn about different pruning techniques for different fruit trees, and enjoy the winter beauty of one of Moonee Valley's beautiful community gardens.

2017 National Tree Day
National Tree Day is Australia's largest community tree-planting and nature care event. In Moonee Valley, it's an opportunity to do something positive for your local environment, and gives you an opportunity to reconnect with nature. Moonee Valley City Council will be holding this year's event at Fairburn Park, with tree planting, workshops, fun activities for the kids, and of course a yummy BBQ for our dedicated planting crews!

Moonee Valley Winter Community Planting Days
Every year, Moonee Valley coordinates a number of fun, family friendly planting days held at our iconic reserves and creeks. There are activities for the kids, sustainable gardening workshops and much, much more. Planting Days are something not to be missed, and a chance to give a helping hand to the Moonee Valley environment too!
