Clean Up Australia Day

When: Sunday, 5 March, 10am-3pm

In the past 26 years, Australians have devoted more than 31 million hours towards the environment through Clean Up Australia Day and each year, ‘team Moonee Valley’ gets into actions as well! Jump onto the Clean Up Australia Day site and find a Moonee Valley registered site to join or create your own.


DIY Wicking Garden Bed

Did you know wicking beds can use up to 50 per cent less water than normal gardens by holding a reservoir of water in the base of the bed that ‘wicks’ up through the soil, reducing evaporation? Learn how to build a wicking garden bed while helping the Men's Shed construct one at this workshop.

Green Renting in Moonee Valley

For the 16,000 renters in Moonee Valley, greening the home and reducing bill stress comes with big barriers. So whether it’s a rambling heritage house, or a modern apartment that you rent, if you’re looking for sustainable solutions, this is the workshop for you.

Meet experts offering low-cost and temporary energy and water efficiency solutions, the latest info on energy efficient appliances, as well as apps and websites to help you green up your home.

Successful worm composting for schools

Kids and composting go together, and worms are just icing on the compost cake!

Learn how these special school worm composting units work, why schools compost, and how to get the school community involved.

Wetland Walk and Talk

Celebrate World Environment Day by joining our bird guru on a guided walking tour of Afton Street wetland.  Discover this unique landscape and learn about the diverse birdlife that call this oasis home.

Declutter and reduce waste - The 10 R's

Do you have money and time to waste? How much money and time do you waste buying things only to find you already have it? Eco Organiser, Tanya Lewis, will show you how to organise, declutter and reduce waste to live the life you want.

Fruit Trees and Winter Pruning 

Winter is the perfect time for pruning to maintain the size and shape of your fruit trees. It also activates dormant buds to produce fruiting spurs which means a better crop in the summer months. Come to this free workshop, with the experts from Werribee Park Heritage Orchard, and learn about different pruning techniques for different fruit trees, and enjoy the winter beauty of one of Moonee Valley's beautiful community gardens.

2017 National Tree Day 

National Tree Day is Australia's largest community tree-planting and nature care event. In Moonee Valley, it's an opportunity to do something positive for your local environment, and gives you an opportunity to reconnect with nature. Moonee Valley City Council will be holding this year's event at Fairburn Park, with tree planting, workshops, fun activities for the kids, and of course a yummy BBQ for our dedicated planting crews!

Moonee Valley Winter Community Planting Days

Every year, Moonee Valley coordinates a number of fun, family friendly planting days held at our iconic reserves and creeks. There are activities for the kids, sustainable gardening workshops and much, much more. Planting Days are something not to be missed, and a chance to give a helping hand to the Moonee Valley environment too!
