Join an environmental volunteers group

Would you like to:

  • learn more about your local environment?
  • get out and about in local parks and reserves?
  • be part of a passionate community group?

If the answer is yes, then get involved with your local environmental volunteers group. Together we can make a positive impact on our local environment by:

  • planting trees
  • weeding
  • mulching and more

Please remember to:

  • register your attendance to assist with resourcing and catering
  • bring gloves and drinking water
  • wear appropriate clothing and footwear

All children must be supervised by an adult.

World Environment Day  Friends of Afton Street Afton Street Conservation Park, Aberfeldie. Meet at the entrance to the reserve within the carpark.

Sunday 4 June

10am - Noon

Celebrate World Environment Day by joining our bird guru on a guided walking tour of Afton Street wetland. Learn Discover this unique landscape and learn about the diverse birdlife that call this oasis home.

Conservation Activity Friends of 5 Mile Creek 5 Mile Creek Reserve, Essendon. Meet at the carpark at the end of Government Road.

Sunday 4 June

2 – 4pm

Come and help the Friends of 5 Mile Creek conduct conservation works throughout the reserve. Works may include hand weeding, mulching, removal of tree guards and rubbish removal. Light refreshments will be provided.

2 – 4pm

Come join the Friends of 5 Mile Creek and help plant 500 trees and shrubs throughout the reserve to assist in weed suppression and increased habitat along the creek corridor.
Light refreshments will be provided.

Planting Activity Friends of the Maribyrnong Valley Canning Tea Gardens Reserve, Avondale Heights. Meet at the end of Tea Gardens Drive.

Wednesday 5 July

9.30 am – 12.30pm

Come and join the Friends of the Maribyrnong and corporate Volunteers from William Buck Accountants to maintain our 2016 planting site and plant an additional 180 trees and shrubs. The Friends group will provide treats for all.

Registration of attendance at least a week prior is required.

Come join the Friends of Afton Street and help plant 300 shrubs and groundcovers throughout the reserve to create habitat for our local fauna. Light refreshments will be provided.

Planting Activity Friends of Napier Park Napier Park, Strathmore.
Meet on the corner Noble Avenue and Glenbervie Road.

Saturday 15 July

10am - Noon

Come join the Friends of Napier Park and help plant 300 shrubs and groundcovers throughout the reserve. These plantings will provide habitat connection throughout the park.
Light refreshments will be provided.

National Tree Day Moonee Valley City Council  Fairbairn Park, Ascot Vale. Please meet at the staging area near the corner of Woods and Newsom Street.

Sunday 30 July

10am – Noon

National Tree Day is Australia's largest community tree-planting and nature care event. In Moonee Valley, it's an opportunity to do something positive for your local environment, and gives you an opportunity to reconnect with nature.

Council will be holding this year's event at Fairburn Park, with tree planting, workshops, fun activities for the kids, and of course a yummy BBQ for our dedicated planting crews!

Planting Activity Friends of the Maribyrnong Valley Education Garden, Avondale Heights. Park at the main carpark off Canning Street and follow the path North to the Education Garden, situated just before the Tea Gardens.

Wednesday 2 August

9.30 am – Noon

Help the Friends of the Maribyrnong re-establish wildflowers and reduce weeds within our Education Garden. Light refreshments will be provided.

Friends of Moonee Ponds Creek
Horseshoe Bend, Strathmore Heights. Park in carpark at the end of Boing Road and follow the path South 650m. Turn left and follow the path along the creek. 

Sunday 13 August

10am - Noon

Come join the Friends of Moonee Ponds Creek and help revitalize several existing garden beds along the Moonee Ponds Creek. Activities include hand weeding, mulching, guard removal and infill planting.

Light refreshments will be provided.
