Fruit Trees and Winter Pruning 

Winter is the perfect time for pruning to maintain the size and shape of your fruit trees. It also activates dormant buds to produce fruiting spurs which means a better crop in the summer months. Come to this free workshop, with the experts from Werribee Park Heritage Orchard, and learn about different pruning techniques for different fruit trees, and enjoy the winter beauty of one of Moonee Valley's beautiful community gardens.

Reduce your plastic usage - tips and tricks with Erin Rhoads

Come along to our workshop in celebration of plastic free July and get ready for a plastic free challenge at home with all the tips and tricks from Eco-blogger Erin Rhoades. Plus learn how to make your own beeswax wraps and replace cling-film from your life with the guidance of the Inner West Plastic Bag Free group!

2017 National Tree Day 

National Tree Day is Australia's largest community tree-planting and nature care event. In Moonee Valley, it's an opportunity to do something positive for your local environment, and gives you an opportunity to reconnect with nature. Moonee Valley City Council will be holding this year's event at Fairbairn Park, with tree planting, workshops, fun activities for the kids, and of course a yummy BBQ for our dedicated planting crews!

Moonee Valley Community Planting Days

Every year, Moonee Valley coordinates a number of fun, family friendly planting days held at our iconic reserves and creeks. There are activities for the kids, sustainable gardening workshops and much, much more. Planting Days are something not to be missed, and a chance to give a helping hand to the Moonee Valley environment too!

Speed date a sustainable home expert

Are you renovating or building and looking for environmentally friendly options? Need advice about solar, energy efficiency, water saving or green roofs? Get free one-on-one advice and tips from leading architects, designers and experts.

Energy Smart Schools

Help your school reduce energy use and save on bills!

Cherry Energy experts will be on hand to present on all the energy saving options available to schools. Learn about solar, LED lighting and case studies from other schools that have successfully transitioned to energy saving solutions.

Participants will also learn ways to incorporate this energy saving infrastructure into your primary or secondary curriculum. Principals, schools council members, teachers, parents and students from Moonee Valley schools all welcome to this FREE event.

Beginners guide to growing vegies

Want to grow your own food but don't know where to start? Be guided through the basics as we look at low or no-cost organic methods, including options for growing in pots for renters or people with limited space.

Mini Beasts in Queens Park

Looking for something to do with the kids over the school holidays? Learn about mini beasts and water bugs with some exciting hands on activities and become a Junior Ranger on a tour of Queens Park. Guardian supervision required.

Happy Families = Happy Homes

Is your life too cluttered? Eco Organiser Tanya Lewis shares the 10R's™ method to declutter your home and save time, space and money without costing the earth.

Summer Gardening

With many spring plants reaching the end of their lifecycles, it's the perfect time to learn how to get the most out of your garden in the warmer weather.

This workshop looks at which veggies to plant, how to keep gardens going until June and the most inexpensive and delicious ways to preserve your harvest.

Edible gardening for children

Celebrate Children's Week by teaching your children the value of home grown healthy produce. Kids will learn how to plant and care for their own seedlings and will be able to take home seedling in their own biodegradable pots.

What is causing your plants to suffer? Can weeds be good for the garden?
