HOME>Council and Community>Have your say
| Moonee Valley City Council is committed to enhancing communication with the community and regularly seeks input on a range of Council plans, projects and activities. Effective community consultation and engagement is a necessary part of representing the community, is vital to Council’s decision making processes, enables the facilitation of more informed planning and enables Council to better lead and advocate on behalf of its community.
Council’s consultation is guided by a Service Charter, which outlines minimum expected consultation practices to ensure meaningful engagement with the community.
There are many ways you can get involved in Council’s consultation including the Community Advisory Forums or by participating in the Community Research Project. The following public consultations are currently occurring:
| |
| Feedback sought on suburb name change for Keilor East and Airport West | | Council has recently written to property owners and occupiers in Keilor East and Airport West, to gauge the level of support for a possible suburb name change for these two suburbs.
In addition, Council is interested to hear from the wider Moonee Valley community of whether it supports this proposal to change the suburb names for both Keilor East and Airport West.
At this stage no decision has been made to move forward with the renaming process. Nor has Council formed a view on whether they support the renaming of either suburb or what those suburbs should be called.
Therefore, we encourage any resident of Moonee Valley who would like to participate in this public consultation to record their feedback.
To ensure that naming suggestions can be considered, please also refer to the naming guiding principles that Council must adhere to.
| Have your say – draft Moonee Valley Housing Strategy | | Over the past 12 months, Moonee Valley City Council, in consultation with a range of stakeholders, has developed the draft Moonee Valley Housing Strategy.
The draft Housing Strategy has been designed to ensure future development in the local area is guided to appropriate locations so that Moonee Valley has enough of the right type of housing to meet the future needs of the community.
The draft Housing Strategy comprises two parts; they are the draft Housing Strategy and the draft Background Report.
Council is inviting you to provide feedback on the draft Housing Strategy. Have your say by:
• Attending an information session • Filling in a feedback form • Visiting a Lego House information display
The closing date for submissions will be Friday 11 December 2009. Council will consider all submissions received before the final Housing Strategy is adopted.
All those who submit feedback will go into the draw to win one of the Lego Houses.
For more information, please contact Bridget Schajermann on 9243 8888.
| Fairbairn Park Master Plan | | Council is undertaking a Master Plan for Fairbairn Park.
The Master Plan will consider a broad range of issues including access, water conservation, sporting infrastructure, play opportunities, signage, furniture, recreation and community uses. The Master Plan will also investigate the possibility of Essendon Cricket Club relocating from Windy Hill to Fairbairn Park.
Council is seeking your feedback and invites you to have your say by:
Attending the second community meeting on Thursday 12 November, 6.30pm - 8.00pm Riverside Golf and Tennis Centre (Newsom Street, Ascot Vale) (Melways Map 28 Ref D9)
Contact Council’s Coordinator Sport and Recreation, Amanda Allen by emailing parkimprovements@mvcc.vic.gov.au or by calling 9243 8888.
Ideas generated from the first public meeting, held on Thursday 1 October 2009, are now available to view (pdf,56kb).
An extensive consultation process will be undertaken in the development of this master plan and community stakeholders are invited to comment through scheduled public meetings or by registering your comments via the online form.
| Have your say- Milleara Service Model | | Moonee Valley City Council is building an environmentally sustainable, accessible, state of the art, 98-place family and children’s centre in Keilor East, on the corner of Keilor Park Drive and Milleara Road.
Council has allocated $1 million to the project, the Federal Government has contributing $2.8 million and the State Government $500,000.
Construction is well underway and there is an interactive photo gallery which shows the progress of the works.
The centre will incorporate a range of services including long day care, kindergarten, maternal and child health and play groups.
We are keen to get input from you about local needs and what additional services should be included in the centre. You can have your say by filling in a survey.
Surveys are available online or in hardcopy by calling 9243 8888. Surveys are due by Friday 7 November however Council is happy to continue receiving feedback, input and surveys after this date.
We are looking to complete the building by the end of January 2010, and officially opening and launch the centre early 2010.
We are taking expressions of interest from parents who would like to access children’s programs at this centre including long day care, kindergarten and maternal and child health services.
You can call us on 9243 8888 or email millearahub@mvcc.vic.gov.au. We are not taking enrolments yet, just expressions of interest at this stage.
| Have Your Say- Draft Greenhouse Strategy and Action Plan | | Moonee Valley City Council has developed a draft Greenhouse Strategy which is on consultation until 9am Monday 7 December 2009.
The draft Greenhouse Strategy includes three action plans: • Community Greenhouse Action Plan • Council Greenhouse Action Plan • Sustainable Public Lighting Action Plan
The draft strategy and action plans map out how Moonee Valley can reduce its greenhouse emissions, and therefore its carbon footprint and contribution to climate change.
The draft Greenhouse Strategy and action plans propose to reduce Council’s emissions to zero by 2015 and the community’s emissions to zero by 2020.
The draft Greenhouse Strategy focuses on Moonee Valley reducing emissions through programs and actions tackling buildings, transport, waste, water and lighting.
How to have your say | |
| Have Your Say- Kindergarten Central Enrolment review | | Council manages the Central Enrolment Scheme for Kindergartens across Moonee Valley. This scheme provides services and families with a co-ordinated enrolment process to assist in placing children in the program of their parents' choice.
Over the last few years it has become apparent that a new system is needed that better meets the needs of families and Kindergartens within the City of Moonee Valley.
In October this year we began the consultation process to review the priority of access for the enrolment to Kindergarten. A reference group was established. This group included, Councillor Narelle Sharpe, Family and Children Services Department representatives, teaching staff from both Council and Community based Kindergartens, Committee of Management members and parent representatives.
The aim of the reference group was to consider the issues facing families in relation to the current central enrolment scheme, review the current priority of access and to develop a new priority of access criteria for approval by Council.
As a result, the draft criteria have been developed and is on public consultation until Friday 20 November.
Proposed New Criteria | |
| Children of Residents of the City of Moonee Valley: Priority will be given to Moonee Valley resident/ratepayer | | Non Moonee Valley resident with a link to MVCC, working/studying: Priority is given to any non resident family who: receives paid employment or studies in Moonee Valley or has a child in regular child care service i.e. long day care centre, family day care or cared by relatives | | Proximity to the kindergarten: This will allow a family to be allocated to their closest Kindergarten | | Child attends 3 yr old activity group: These families will be given consideration to allow for continuity of care | | Sibling Preference: This will give preferences to families that have already developed an association with a centre | | Family having used the service within the last 3 years: Families that have had children previously at the Kindergarten | | Child at risk: This is a priority in line with Government policy | | Child with additional needs: This is a priority in line with Government policy | | Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander: This is a priority in line with Government policy | | Deferrals: This is a priority in line with Government policy | | Second year : A second year of funded four year old Kindergarten is only available to children who meet criteria set by the DEECD |
|
|
| We are asking you to have your say about the proposed new criteria.
Once this feedback has been received, a final draft will be taken to the reference group and recommendations will be made to Council for endorsement of a new policy in December. This will enable the new policy to apply for 2011 enrolments (processed from 2010).
Please complete the online form by Friday 20 November. For more information email kinderenrol@mvcc.vic.gov.au.
