| Building Partnerships Building Communities | | Our health and well being is influenced by our lifestyles and living conditions.
It is a legal requirement for all councils in Victoria to prepare a Municipal Public Health Plan every three years (Section 29A Health Act 1958). A Municipal Public Health Plan identifies current or potential health risks in the community and develops strategies that address these issues.
The goal of the planning process was to understand health and wellbeing through the perspectives of different life stages. Over 500 people were involved in consultations across the municipality.
Other processes that contributed to the development of Building Partnerships Building Communities included: | |
 | Review of the Moonee Valley Health Plan 2000-2003 | | Start of the health and wellbeing profile incorporating key information, data and policy directions | | Community consultations through questionnaires, focus groups and interviews | | Information derived from other consultation processes |
|
|
| Municipal Health Plan vision | | The vision developed for health and wellbeing in Moonee Valley:
In 2014 Moonee Valley will be an inclusive community that embraces diversity and promotes and supports community members at all life stages.
Services and systems respond to the strengths, needs and issues of the community in order to build health and wellbeing.
| |
| Key objectives | | The following key objectives emerged from the consultation. Strategies have been developed for each objectives according to life stage:
1. Build strong and connected communities through the social and physical environment
2. Develop services and information systems to meet the needs of the diverse Moonee Valley community
3. Promote the personal health and wellbeing of community members by strengthening their physical and emotional health
4. Create a safe community
The Municipal Public Health Plan 2004-2007 Building Partnerships Building Communities was endorsed by Council at the Ordinary Council meeting in December 2003.
