A special charge or rate is an annual fee paid by business properties that is pooled into a central fund and is spent on encouraging commerce and retail activity in that area.
The traders associations in each district receive 100 per cent the money collected and allocate the money on a range of things including:
- marketing events
- promotional advertising and material
- employment of a centre coordinator
- centre décor and displays
- works to enhance the appearance of the centre in addition to those already provided by Council
Who pays the special charge or rate?
The special charge or rate applies to the following five districts:
The property owner is liable to pay the special charge or rate. However, some landlords have leasing arrangements that defer the special charge or rate to the tenant.
Check your leasing arrangement or contact your landlord to find out who is liable for the special charge or rate.
Who manages the special charge or rate funds collected?
We collect and forward the funds to the responsible associations.
