Community funding

We provide support for local projects and activities through the Community Funding Program to achieve the long term vision of a safe, friendly, sustainable and vibrant community.

We acknowledge that at times, organisations, community groups, individuals and local businesses seek partnership and or require financial support from us to contribute to the social, cultural, economic, and environmental wellbeing of our local community.

Through the Community Funding Program, we seek to create a consistent, transparent and equitable decision making approach in considering community financial support.

Support is provided through the following streams:

  • Grants
  • Vouchers
  • Donations
  • Sponsorship
  • Subsidy for community service organisations

Grants

Biannual Grants

Grants of up to $20,000 are offered twice per year to local community groups, not-for-profits, individuals and local business for one-off projects that help improve community life and participation in Moonee Valley.

Responsive Grants

Grants of up to $1,000 are offered each month within two categories:

  1. Emerging Need – to support local community groups with unforseen and urgent needs
  2. Individual Participation – to support local individual’s participation in non-ongoing sports, recreation, arts, culture and educational activities at an elite level

Vouchers

We can assist local not-for-profit local community groups with their fundraising efforts through the provision of a voucher to a select range of Council services.

Local community groups and organisations are eligible for one voucher per 12 months to be used for fundraising activities in which raised funds must be directed towards local services or programs.

How to apply:

  • Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis online via SmartyGrants
  • Applications are assessed within two to four weeks of submission

Donations

We can support fundraising activities of local community organisations by providing a one-off donation.

How to apply:

  • Applications are accepted on an monthly basis (closing on the first day of the month)
  • Applications may be submitted online via SmartyGrants
  • Following the close of the round, applications are assessed within four to six weeks

Sponsorships

We can provide a financial or in kind contribution for an event, activity or program, provided by a community organisation or group in return for agreed benefits to Council.

Applications for 2017/18 funding closed on 31 October 2016.

How to apply:

  • Applications are accepted annually: open on 1 August, close on 5pm on 30 September 2017 
  • Applications may be submitted online via SmartyGrants
  • Applications are assessed in line with the Council budget process and outcomes are announced following the adoption of the Council budget in May/June 2018

Subsidy for community organisations

We can provide funding to assist local community service organisations to provide community services that have been identified as needed in the Moonee Valley area.

Applicants must discuss their applications with Council officers prior to applying.

How to apply:

  • Applications are accepted annually: open on 1 August, close at 5pm on 30 September 2017
  • Applications may be submitted online via SmartyGrants
  • Applications are assessed in line with the Council budget process and outcomes are announced following the adoption of the Council budget in May/June 2018
