Friday, 10 November 2017

Rose Hill Ward Councillor John Sipek was last night elected as the Mayor of Moonee Valley and will lead the municipality for the next year.

This is the second time Cr Sipek has been elected as Mayor after previously serving as Moonee Valley Mayor in 2010-11.

Cr Sipek last night said he was proud to be elected to represent Moonee Valley as Mayor.

“I’m incredibly honoured to take on the responsibility of being Mayor of Moonee Valley in what is going to be a challenging time for our municipality,” Cr Sipek said.

“As a Council we have several large immediate challenges ahead of us but I believe we have a great captain of the ship in Chief Executive Officer Bryan Lancaster.

“As the portfolio holder for Sports and Community Organisations I am passionate about our community and making Moonee Valley an enjoyable place to live. I’m also committed to making long-term decisions that will allow us to plan well into the future and that will benefit all members of our community.

“Over the next 12 months I am committed to working hard along with my fellow Councillors to achieve positive outcomes for the whole of Moonee Valley.”

Fellow Rose Hill Ward Councillor Samantha Byrne was elected Deputy Mayor.

“I would like to congratulate Cr Byrne on being elected Deputy Mayor and I look forward to working with her over the next year,” Cr Sipek said.

Cr Byrne said she was honoured to be elected as Deputy Mayor and thanked the Councillor group for having trust and belief in her.

“I look forward to working with Mayor Cr Sipek along with our fantastic team of Councillors and Council staff to ensure Moonee Valley continues to be a great place to live, work, and visit,” Cr Byrne said.

“Residents can be assured that we have the best in mind for them and for the whole municipality.”
