Girls' footy returns to Moonee Valley

Monday, 29 January 2018

Moonee Valley City Council is proud to host an AFL 9s competition for girls aged 8 to 13 years on Sunday, 25 February at Canning Reserve.

In our second year of hosting this competition, the Girls’ AFL 9s Pre-Season Challenge will feature round robin AFL 9s competitions with local under 13 and under 11 teams from the Essendon District Football League (EDFL).

Moonee Valley Mayor and Council’s portfolio holder for Sports and Community Organisations Cr John Sipek said this event is a great opportunity for girls to try their hand at AFL.

“I am proud that we encourage young girls and women to participate in sport, and we are working to ensure all of our sporting facilities are female-friendly,” Cr Sipek said.

“We appreciate AFL Victoria and the Essendon District Football League helping us to run this event for our community.

“I encourage everyone to support the girls at this great event and enjoy a great day of AFL.”
