Watch Council meetings live from anywhere

Thursday, 2 November 2017

Moonee Valley City Council will start live streaming all Ordinary and Special Council Meetings beginning with the Statutory Meeting to elect the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor on Thursday, 9 November.

Outgoing Moonee Valley Mayor, Cr Andrea Surace said that it was important that Council embrace new technology to better engage with the community.

“Council’s decision making process can feel really removed if you haven’t had the opportunity to come along to a meeting and see the issues debated and voted on.

“Livestreaming is fantastic because it means that people can watch the meetings or follow an item of interest from anywhere. It ensures that the decision making process is open, transparent and accessible to the whole community.

“For those people who aren’t able to attend meetings due to work or family commitments, this is particularly important.

“Meetings are streamed live on Council’s Facebook and can be viewed on demand following the meeting from our website.

“This is all part of our commitment to good governance and engaging our community in the decisions that affect them.

“If you haven’t already started following Council on our social media channels now is a great time to start. It’s the simplest way to stay up to date on what’s going on in your community including fun events workshops, new services, consultations and important information on decisions that impact you!” she said.
