About the Council

Moonee Valley Next Generation 2035

We are asking you to share your long-term vision for the city by filling in a survey or taking part in the online discussion forum.

What is a community vision?

A community vision is a look into the future. We ask you to picture your city in 2035 and tell us what it should be like.
As we gather the long-term aspirations of the community, an image will emerge. This shared vision will represent the values and priorities of local residents, students, workers and businesses.

What is it for?

The shared community vision will provide directions we can all work towards for a healthy, sustainable, successful community.

It will be the basis on which we develop a long-term community plan. The community plan will set out directions and steps to help make sure we build the community we aspire to. Some of these steps will involve Council action, some will involve partnerships and some will be taken up by community agencies and businesses in Moonee Valley.

Why do you need to get involved?

We all have an opinion about what city we want for the next generation. If a lot of us have a say, then the shared vision will be a true reflection of what matters to our community.

We are seeking ideas from all generations – children, young people, working age adults and older adults. We want to hear from residents, students, workers and businesses.

When can you share your vision?

Start sharing your vision at the Moonee Valley Festival on Sunday, 26 February. You can have your say as often as you like until the end of May. We will then be compiling an overview of the themes coming through and reporting back to the community.

How can you share your vision?

Tell us what what you value about our community, what challenges you see on the horizon and what you would like our city to be like.

You can:

  • Have your say online: fill in the online survey or take part in the online discussion forum
  • Download a survey (pdf, 140KB). Return your completed survey to Moonee Valley City Council, Reply Paid 126, Moonee Ponds VIC 3039 (no stamp required). You can also drop your survey at the Civic Centre, 9 Kellaway Avenue, Moonee Ponds or into the vision box.
  • Get a hard copy survey from the Civic Centre, Council libraries or community centres. Drop your completed survey at the same spot. You can also detach the survey, fold, seal and post it back to us using the reply paid (no stamp required).
  • Attend a community event and complete a survey on the spot
  • Watch out for the vision box coming to a council facility near you and post your vision
  • Surveys are available in Arabic, Chinese, Greek, Italian, Somali and Vietnamese in the multilingual section

Everyone taking part in the survey will go in the draw to win some great prizes.

Moonee Valley in 2035 – what we know

Moonee Valley has a rich history. The city has developed over time to be the vibrant place it is today and it will continue to evolve.
Our population will increase, adding to our culturally rich and diverse community. We are living longer and this will be reflected by a higher proportion of older adults in 2035.

Moonee Valley is a city in transition. These changes in population, driven by the growth of metropolitan Melbourne, will bring both challenges and opportunities.

For example, more people will be travelling in the city by foot, bicycle, public transport and car. There will be an increase in needs for housing. This is because more of us prefer to live in smaller households and more people will want to live, work, socialise and interact in Moonee Valley in 2035.
