Fairbairn Park Precinct upgrades

A number of exciting projects are proposed for the Fairbairn Park Precinct in 2018 and 2019.

Want to help inform the project?

We are seeking an Expression of Interest from residents and sports users of the Riverside Golf and Tennis Centre and Fairbairn Park to be part of a Project Control Group. The Project Control Group will serve as a reference group and will help guide the project over the next year. There will also be opportunities to inform any other major works planned onsite beyond this project.

If you think you have the skills and experience to be part of the Project Control Group please complete the expression of interest form (pdf, 77KB). Please also refer to the Terms of Reference (pdf, 269KB). Applications are due 5pm, Monday 28 May 2018.

Lighting project at Fairbairn Park

We are installing lights at Oval 9 at Fairbairn Park. Works are due to take place in early June 2018. These works are aligned with the Fairbairn Park master plan and also will help address the needs of the current and future users of the reserve.

Works planned for 2018

The project at Riverside Golf and Tennis Centre will be completed in a number of phases, with the first phase being the addition of new courts for tennis and netball as well as adding pedestrian thoroughfares, seating, lighting and fencing. Landscaping will also be undertaken for this project.

The works form part of the Fairbairn Park Master Plan (2013) and the Riverside Golf and Tennis Master Plan (2015) recommended upgrades. Other strategies, such as the Moonee Valley Leisure Strategy 2013 – 2023 and the Sports Development Plan 2014 – 2023, have referenced the site as the ideal location to address the future growth of netball and tennis needs in the community.

In March 2018, the State Government announced its commitment to invest $1.5m into developing netball infrastructure at Fairbairn/Riverside. We have been working with the state sporting associations and the State Government regarding the works that will be needed to progress the project.

Other works planned for 2019 and beyond

We will be making car parking improvements at the northern end of Woods Street. Further car parking upgrades along Woods Street as well as a new community pavilion are being planned.
