Hard waste collection

Hard Waste Collection

You will have one hard waste collection per year.

Items that can be placed out for collection:

  • Household appliances and furniture
  • Dismantled wardrobes
  • General unwanted household items in boxes
  • Timber not exceeding one metre in length
  • Chinaware and window glass (wrapped in cardboard or thicker paper, clearly marked 'glass')
  • All waste metal including tin, scrap iron and lawnmowers
  • Car parts not exceeding 1.5 metres in length and 15 kg in weight
  • All whitegoods including fridges and washing machines (for safety requirements fridge doors must be removed)

Your total hard waste should not be larger than two cubic metres.

Items that cannot be placed out for collection:

  • Hazardous waste
  • Rubble
  • Chemicals
  • Tyres
  • Branches and prunings
  • Asbestos
  • Paint/tins containing wet paint
  • Items longer than 1.5 metres
  • Loads exceeding two cubic metres
  • Items heavier than 15 kg
  • Liquid waste
  • Recyclables e.g. bottles, paper
  • Materials from renovations, building sites and/or fencing

2012 hard waste collection dates

You will no longer receive a mailing before your annual hard waste collection takes place. So that you don’t miss your collection, please keep your calendar all year as a reference. You can also check the dates below or look out for promotion in the local papers.

Recycle your hard waste online

Got items that you no longer want but are too good to throw out? Give them away on Ziilch, an easy-to-use online recycling website. It's free to join, free to list and free to take.

To get started, simply sign-up and list an item to give away. Interested Ziilch members will then request your item and you can arrange a mutually convenient time for the person to collect it.
