Fairbairn Park Precinct upgrades

A number of exciting projects are proposed for the Fairbairn Park Precinct in 2018 and 2019.

Hard court upgrades at Riverside Golf and Tennis Centre

In June, a project control group was set up following an expression of interest process in May, 2018. The group met for the first time in late June and will serve as a reference group and will help guide the project over the next year. The group has already helped identify some potential issues and is working on mitigation strategies to address those.

An initial concept design for the hard courts has been developed and in August, we'll begin working on a detailed design. The detailed design will address issues around pedestrian thoroughfares, seating, lighting, water sensitive urban design principles and fencing. Landscaping design will also be undertaken for the detailed design.

The works form part of the Fairbairn Park Master Plan (2013) and the Riverside Golf and Tennis Master Plan (2015) recommended upgrades. Other strategies, such as the Moonee Valley Leisure Strategy 2013 – 2023 and the Sports Development Plan 2014 – 2023, have referenced the site as the ideal location to address the future growth of netball and tennis needs in the community.

In March 2018, the state government announced its commitment to invest $1.5m into developing netball infrastructure at Fairbairn/Riverside. We have been working with the state sporting associations and the state government regarding the works that will be needed to progress the project.

Lighting project at Fairbairn Park

The new lights at Oval 9 at Fairbairn Park were installed in June 2018. These works are aligned with the Fairbairn Park master plan and also will help address the needs of the current and future users of the reserve.

Other works planned for 2019 and beyond

We will be making car parking improvements at the northern end of Woods Street. Further car parking upgrades along Woods Street as well as a new community pavilion are being planned.
