What is My Smart Garden?

A smart way for people to adapt to the changing climate

My Smart Garden is a free program to help you:

  • grow food
  • shelter your home from the sun and wind
  • create homes for local wildlife
  • use water wisely
  • recycle wastes

My Smart Garden has something for everyone and is simple, easy and fun. It has been designed so that you can ‘choose your own gardening adventure'.

As a Smart Gardener you will:

  • receive advice at free workshops and events
  • lower your food, energy and water costs
  • access discounts from local gardening suppliers
  • connect with other gardeners
  • be rewarded for active involvement

A Smart Garden promotes a different type of garden: one that will help you adapt to the hotter days and more variable rainfall as a result of our changing climate. No matter whether you have a backyard, balcony or courtyard, you can benefit from gardening more sustainably.

This program is aimed at people living in either the Hobsons Bay City Council or Moonee Valley City Council. Other people are welcome to use the free information and ideas.

Moonee Valley and Hobsons Bay City Councils are pleased to offer this program which is supported by the Victorian Government Sustainability Fund, managed by Sustainability Victoria.
