What is Re-new?
Re-new offers households the chance to recycle textiles, household items, printer cartridges and mobile phones from their doorstep. It is an extension of the existing kerbside collection service, helping to further reduce the amount of household waste going to landfill and encourage recycling.
Last year we collected 218 tonnes (approximately one million items) of reusable goods that did not go to landfill.
What you can Re-new:
-
Useable textiles and clothing: Clothes, footwear, ties, scarves, hats, jewellery, blankets, sheets, pillow cases, bed linen, table covers, towels, kitchen textiles, ornamental textiles
-
Hard goods: Handbags and purses, belts and leather items, toys, games, books, cookware (pots, pans, fry pans) and cutlery, sporting goods (must fit in the recycling bin), plastic bags, plastic household items such as, food containers

What happens to my Re-new goods?
The goods are diverted from landfill to get a second chance at life at a range of charities and re-use markets both in Australia and overseas. Some goods even get turned into brand new items. Household plastics that can’t be immediately re-used can be recycled into e-wood, which can be used to make fence posts and furniture.
Don’t forget your favourite charity!
Remember that the Re-new collection should not affect your usual donations to charities. If you normally donate goods to a favourite charity, please continue to do so. Re-new is simply a convenient Council service for those who do not usually donate goods to charities or who are unable to get out and about.
Kids Off The Kerb
The Re-new collection is managed by Kids Off The Kerb, a charity focused on assisting local at-risk young people though environmental and recycling projects. The charity gives disadvantaged young people the opportunity to take control of their lives, learn new skills and be mentored in a business and sustainability program.
