Aboriginal canvas painting

Unstretched
ABoriginal canvas painting

A collection of unstretched indigenous canvases gathered from female artists sourced from various communities in the central desert.

16 September - 4 October

Opening: Saturday 19 September 2pm-4pm. All welcome

Each painting depicts the 'dreaming' they have inherited [through descent] but it’s their ability to encode their stories through a western medium that is truly unique. Their indigenous symbolism and lack of western techniques were unknown to ‘uninitiated man’, until the early 1970s.

All works for sale with a certificate of authenticity.

The Moonee Ponds Central School Art Biennale

7 – 11 October

Opening: Wednesday 7 October 5pm -7pm. All welcome

Moonee Ponds Central School is a Prep-Year 8 Central School established in 1919. One of two unique central schools of Victoria. The school offers an intimate and nurturing environment with a strong focus on the Visual and Performing Arts. It also provides a pathway for entry to selective state high schools.

In this 2009 Biennale at the Incinerator Arts Complex we have deemed it essential to integrate our environmental concerns with our Visual Arts Focus. Footprints large, small, individual and clustered. The artworks have been created from two- dimensional and three- dimensional materials and are rich in self expression.
Each student has created a miniature view of how they see the world around them and make visual statements about how to improve our situation.
