About the new Airport West Green Spine linear park

Download the illustrated Green Spine linear park map (pdf, 5MB)

Running along the Airport West Easement between Parer Road and Fraser Street in Airport West, the Green Spine linear park space now includes:

  • community facilities such as BBQs, exercise equipment, half basketball court, shelter and seating.
  • upgraded shared pathway
  • urban ecology and environmental benefits to contribute to the health of the city and the community
  • design elements that harvest, clean and re-use local stormwater for water features such as seasonal creek beds, ponds and underground water storage and improves the quality and health of local waterways.

The innovative design of the Green Spine linear park contributes to the improvement of the local environment by capturing, cleaning and storing stormwater.

This not only helps to keep the park green, but also improves the downstream waterways such as Steele Creek and the Maribyrnong River by removing contaminants from road and other surface run-off.

This project was partly funded through Melbourne Water's Living Rivers Program.
