Community funding

We provide support for local projects and activities through the Community Funding Program to achieve the long term vision of a safe, friendly, sustainable and vibrant community.

We acknowledge that at times, organisations, community groups, individuals and local businesses seek partnership and or require financial support from us to contribute to the social, cultural, economic, and environmental wellbeing of our local community.

Through the Community Funding Program, we seek to create a consistent, transparent and equitable decision making approach in considering community financial support.

Support is provided through the following streams:

Grants

Biannual Grants

Grants of up to $20,000 are offered twice per year to local community groups, not-for-profits, individuals and local business for one-off projects that help improve community life and participation in Moonee Valley.

Responsive Grants

Responsive grants are small grants of up to $1,000. They are categorised in two specific funding areas:

  1. Emerging and/or unexpected community need that is urgent and cannot fit into the Biannual Grants time frames. Available for local not-for-profit organisations or community groups (including the establishment of new groups). 
  2. Individual participation and high-level achievement in sports, arts or educational activities. Available for individual residents of the City of Moonee Valley who are experiencing financial hardship.

Vouchers

We can assist local not-for-profit local community groups with their fundraising efforts through the provision of a voucher for selected Council services. These vouchers can be used in fundraising raffles or as prizes.  

Local community groups and organisations are eligible for one voucher per 12 months to be used for fundraising activities in which raised funds must be directed towards local services or programs.

How to apply:

  • Applications are accepted on an monthly basis (closing on the first day of the month)
  • Applications may be submitted online via SmartyGrants
  • Following the close of the round, applications are assessed within four to six weeks

Donations

We can support fundraising activities of local community organisations by providing a one-off donation up to a maximum of $1,000.

  • Following the close of the round, applications are assessed within four to six weeks

Partnership Grants

Council will be introducing the Partnership Grants program from early 2019 to provide specified multi-year funding to local community service organisations. This funding will be provided to meet gaps in local service provision and assist Council achieve strategic objectives.

Partnership funding will be open for applications every 2 years for multi-year funding agreements of either 2 or 4 years.

Detailed Guidelines will be released prior to the opening of the round in early 2019.

Pick My Project is a Victorian-first community grants initiative, with at least $1 million in funding available in each metro and regional area.
