Moonee Valley City Council welcomes the announcement from the State Government of $250,000 to help realign the sports fields and light up the eastern end of the ground at Cross Keys Reserve in Strathmore.

At a visit to the park yesterday, Minister for Sport John Eren announced the funding to go towards the ground realignment and lighting redevelopment project at Cross Keys as part of the World Game Facilities Fund.

Moonee Valley Mayor Cr John Sipek said the grant would help complete the $950,000 project.

“Council recently included $700,000 in our 2018/19 Budget for the ground realignment and upgrades at Cross Keys Reserve,” Cr Sipek said.

“The Government’s contribution will help complete this project by providing lighting at the eastern end to allow our community to better utilise the third soccer and cricket ground.”

Cr Sipek, who is also the portfolio holder for Sports and Community Organisations, said Council was excited to be able to deliver this project to the local community.

“Council is currently in the process of installing a subsurface drainage system, an irrigation system and laser level grounds and we look forward to our local soccer and cricket clubs and the whole community utilising the new fields,” Cr Sipek said.

“We are thrilled that our grant application has been successful and we thank the Minister and Mr Danny Pearson, Member for Essendon, for the support. We can now complete the redevelopment of Cross Keys Reserve.”
