Have your say on the future of Airport West

Friday, 27 October 2017

Moonee Valley City Council is inviting the community to help plan the future of Airport West by having their say on the Airport West Activity Centre Structure Plan Review Key Directions and Preferred Options Report.

In 2014, Council committed to undertake a review of the existing Airport West Activity Centre Structure plan after the State Government announced its plans to transform Airport West and Essendon Fields into a new aviation and employment precinct.

Moonee Valley Mayor Cr Andrea Surace said this was a great chance for the community to have their say on the direction for Airport West.

“We are inviting people who know Airport West the best to provide further feedback on the structure plan review,” Cr Surace said.

“This follows on from initial consultation in 2015 where 5,000 people were directly engaged to provide their views on the future of Airport West.”

Portfolio holder for Planning and Environment, Cr Nicole Marshall, said the four key themes covered in the report are land use and activity, built form and urban design, open space and public realm, and movement and access.

"Residents told us they value local parks and reserves, more open space, support for retaining businesses and services, and improved pedestrian and cycling access," Cr Marshall said.

"This structure plan will aim to meet those needs while also helping to guide major changes to future land use, how people access and move around the area, the design of buildings and open spaces, and infrastructure improvements over the next 20 years.”

Some key initiatives identified in the report include enhancing the current activity centre on McNamara Avenue, providing for an extra 3,000m² of new office space and more locally focused retailing and hospitality, encouraging the redevelopment of vacant and underutilised sites, higher density housing that is close to public transport, shops and services, new and upgraded open spaces, and improved transport connections.

From Friday, 17 November the community can have their say by filling in a survey, available in hard copy and online, or by coming along to the following events:
