Kids will have plenty of activities to keep them entertained in Moonee Valley this school holidays.

Moonee Valley Mayor Cr John Sipek said the school holidays are a great opportunity for children of all ages to get out of the house, learn new activities and make new friends.

“We have plenty of free and low-cost programs on offer, including Minecraft craft, martial arts, an interactive Fizzle and Pop science show, cooking for kids, and turning drawings into musical art,” Cr Sipek said.

“Other highlights of our school holiday program include playdough sculptures, a video games tournament and Valley Vibes at Rosehill Park.”

“We also have a range of films to keep kids of all ages entertained including Matilda, Monsters Inc. and La La Land for the teens.”

Incinerator Gallery

180 Holmes Road, Moonee Ponds

Unleash your child’s creative energy these school holidays through a series of fun and interactive arts workshops. Children will work alongside professional artists and educators to imagine, make, create and express themselves. The workshops are inspired by the Incinerator Gallery exhibitions, architecture and natural environment.

VINTAGE PHOTOGRAPH PAINTING
Children will paint over copies of vintage photographs to transform them into unique works of art. Guided by artist Paula Mahoney, children will investigate the original purpose of the photograph they will be shown different painting techniques to change their image into a funny, gothic or monstrous artwork.

BUZZY BEES: LIFE IN A HIVE
Perfect for children with an interest in nature and the environment, this workshop is all about bees. Learn how and why they make honey, and get up close to some real bees with an apiarist. Learn about drones, queens, colonies, taste some fresh honey and do a bee inspired activity.

MAKING: ART IN THE DARK
Children will explore and be inspired by the multi-sensory exhibition With Seeing Hands in which they’re invited to listen to and touch artworks in order to know what they are about. They will then work with an artist to create an interactive artwork of their own creation.

REFUGE: THE PERFECT PROTECTION
How do you build the perfect refuge? Artist Mat Vaughan will work with children to suggest how. This workshop will explore what a refuge is and how to create their own place to.

Each concert includes 45 minutes of entertainment with songs, puppets and musical instruments.

ESSENDON TRAFFIC SCHOOL

Essendon Traffic School is a great place for kids to practice riding their bicycles while learning about road rules. Complete with road signs, railway bells and traffic lights, this mini road set up for kids aged two to 10 years will be open this school holidays. Note that the traffic school is not open on public holidays.
