Huge volumes of hard waste hampers collection

Friday, 23 November 2018

A huge increase in the amount of hard waste being left out across Moonee Valley has led to delays in completing the annual collection.

While the collection has been completed in Airport West, Strathmore and North Essendon, Council officers have reported a 65 per cent increase in waste compared to 2017.

Moonee Valley Mayor Cr Narelle Sharpe said the collection is currently about two weeks behind schedule.

“Not only are we dealing with an unprecedented increase in the amount of goods being left for collection, but illegal dumping from outside Moonee Valley is also contributing to the problem,” Cr Sharpe said.

“We are working hard to complete the collection as soon as possible.”

Spokesperson for Planning and Environment Cr Nicole Marshall is urging people to be patient.

“Council is committed to keeping Moonee Valley clean, green and beautiful and the hard waste collection is an important part of this process,” Cr Marshall said.

“We are doing the best we can to remove the waste and get Moonee Valley looking great again.”
