Moonee Valley kicks off first FIFA World Cup screening

Wednesday, 30 May 2018

Moonee Valley City Council will be screening Australia’s debut in the FIFA World Cup on Saturday, 16 June at 8pm. This is a free public event to be held at Centreway, Keilor East when the Socceroos take on France.

Moonee Valley Mayor Cr John Sipek said the event was an exciting way for the community to come together to show their support for soccer.

“Council invites residents to bring their picnic blankets and chairs, enjoy food from the local eateries, and enjoy all the action live on the large pop-up screen in the Centreway Plaza,” Cr Sipek said.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing the excitement of the FIFA World Cup to Moonee Valley residents this year in our first-ever live screening event.”

Portfolio holder for Leisure and Active Communities, Cr Samantha Byrne, said the event brings a new opportunity for the community to enjoy a key sporting event in their own neighbourhood.

“Sport crosses all barriers and brings all members of our community together. This is an event we can all celebrate and we look forward to seeing everyone cheer on the Socceroos!” Cr Byrne said.

The public screening will start at 7.40pm with an official welcome by the Mayor followed by the game.
