Moonee Valley thanks community carers

Monday, 10 September 2018

To coincide with National Carers Week 2018, Moonee Valley City Council is hosting a dinner at Ascot House Receptions to recognise the valuable contribution unpaid carers make to the community.

This year, Council is inviting all residents who care for someone with disability to attend the dinner, as well as carers outside of Moonee Valley.

The event will feature a three-course dinner, as well as entertainment throughout the evening. A group respite event will be held at Ascot Vale Neighbourhood Centre for people with disability whose carers are attending the dinner to enable more carers to attend the event.

Moonee Valley Mayor, Cr John Sipek said the event reflects Council’s commitment to supporting carers, who contribute to the health and wellbeing of the whole community.

“Some of our community may be surprised to hear that carers make up 12% of the Moonee Valley population,” Cr Sipek said.

“We’re proud to celebrate our carers at this special event and show them our appreciation for the contribution they make to our community.”

Portfolio holder for Diversity, Access and Inclusion, Cr Cam Nation, said the event will be an opportunity for carers to come together and share their experiences as carers.

“This event is a great chance for carers to enjoy a much-deserved night of entertainment and good food. Council has a range of programs designed to support carers with exercise and wellbeing activities through to a new social program. We encourage carers to get involved in these programs which are open to all carers in and outside of Moonee Valley,” Cr Nation said.
