Pavilion improvements a major win for Moonee Valley

Moonee Valley City Council has welcomed $750,000 from the State Government to go towards two new sporting facilities.

Sports Minister John Eren was in Moonee Valley this week to announce funding of $500,000 through their Female Friendly Facilities Fund for a new community pavilion at Fairbairn Park in Ascot Vale.

The Minister also announced that we had been successful in our grant application for $250,000 through the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund to go towards our $3.9 million redevelopment of the Overland Reserve Pavilion in East Keilor.

Moonee Valley Mayor Cr John Sipek said investing in quality sporting facilities for our community is a major priority for Council.

“Council has lobbied hard for funding to improve sporting facilities across Moonee Valley, particularly for female-friendly change rooms. Rates of girls and women participating in sport are increasing every year across Moonee Valley, but the reality is we still don’t have the infrastructure to support that growth,” Cr Sipek said.

“Our community deserves to have access to quality facilities and that’s why we’ve been working to help deliver new and improved sporting infrastructure for the hundreds of people who use them each week.”

Cr Sipek, who is also the portfolio holder for Sports and Community Organisations, said Council was committed to providing functional and fit-for-purpose facilities to encourage the community to be active and engaged with local sporting clubs.

“Improved and more accessible sporting facilities will help support active communities, improve the health and wellbeing of our community, and increase female participation in sport,” Cr Sipek said.

The new pavilion at Fairbairn Park will cater for the netball and tennis participants at Riverside Golf and Tennis Centre, while the upgraded pavilion at Overland Reserve will include four female-friendly change rooms on top of the existing facilities to support football and cricket.
