Winter Fest brings the cool to Moonee Valley

Tuesday, 15 May 2018

Moonee Ponds will transform into a winter wonderland this June and July with Moonee Valley’s first Winter Fest.

Created through a partnership between Council and the Moonee Ponds Rates Levy Association, our inaugural Winter Fest will attract visitors to Moonee Ponds for open-air ice skating and will encourage residents to explore Moonee Valley with a range of live performances and events.

Moonee Valley Mayor Cr John Sipek invited the whole community to celebrate the cooler weather with ice skating, free live music performances, theatre, movies and family activities.

“The Winter Fest will give residents an opportunity to get out and explore their local areas during the traditionally quieter months of the year and experience winter in Moonee Valley,” Cr Sipek said.

“It’s a perfect chance to embrace the cold and celebrate everything that’s happening right on our doorstep – experience a classical music performance in a church; take a spin on the ice under the stars; or warm up in a local bar while enjoying some live jazz.”

Ice skating will take over Pratt Street from Saturday, 30 June to Sunday, 15 July, with sessions happening throughout the day until 8pm each night. The Melbourne International Jazz Festival will pop up in small venues across Moonee Ponds and Winter Music in the Valley will bring classical music to unexpected and unique venues across Moonee Valley.

Portfolio holder for Business Promotion Cr Richard Lawrence said the festival is a great opportunity to support local business in Moonee Valley.

“The Winter Fest is just another example of how we are activating spaces across Moonee Valley to create opportunities for local businesses,” Cr Lawrence said.

“The Winter Fest wouldn’t be possible without the support of Council’s partners and sponsors, particularly our principal partner Moonee Ponds 3039 and our major festival partners Telstra Store Moonee Ponds and Caydon.”
