Women leading the way in Moonee Valley

Friday, 25 May 2018

Council is inviting women who live, work or study in Moonee Valley to develop their own projects or ideas that support girls and women through our new Women’s Leadership program.

The free program offers participants 12 weekly workshops with experts and community leaders, and course accreditation to the value of eight units through Victoria University’s Diploma of Community Services.

Moonee Valley Mayor Cr John Sipek said the new Women’s Leadership program demonstrates Council’s commitment to supporting gender equity in Moonee Valley.

“This program is a great opportunity for women to build their confidence and skills to advocate for positive change,” Cr Sipek said.

“We look forward to supporting women to develop and implement their own projects that will help all girls and women in our community well into the future.”

Through the program, participants will be given one-on-one guidance by experts and help them gain skills in project management, communications, advocacy and leadership.

Portfolio holder for Community Wellbeing Cr Jim Cusack said the program supports Council’s vision for promoting and encouraging gender equity.

“Council works hard to demonstrate leadership around gender equity and this new program is a way we are promoting positive change directly through our community members. This is addressed in Council’s Diversity, Access and Equity Policy, which aims to support a vibrant and inclusive community,” Cr Cusack said.

The course will run for 12 weeks, starting on Monday, 24 July 2018 and expressions of interest applications are due by Friday, 15 June.
