Debneys Park Precinct Plan and Flemington Community Hub

To find out how you can be involved in the new Debneys Park and Flemington community hub, visit our YourSay page.

We are developing a plan to improve Debneys Park, including a new Flemington community hub.

Debneys Park provides vital facilities, services and open space to the Flemington community, including:

  • Flemington Community Centre
  • Debneys Park sports pavilion
  • Sports fields and courts
  • Picnic facilities and play equipment.

The plan will guide future improvements for the Debneys Park precinct, including a new community hub to replace the existing Flemington Community Centre.

It will also aim to achieve:

  • a feeling of large open space
  • beautification of the park and improved experiences for users
  • enhanced landscaping and protection of significant trees
  • better environmental performance
  • modern and accessible facilities and infrastructure
  • better connection to areas surrounding the park, including the Moonee Ponds Creek
  • easier access without having to use a car and improved links to train stations and tram stops

The following map outlines the boundaries of the precinct:

Background

As an inner city location, the suburb of Flemington and surrounding neighbourhoods are experiencing significant population growth. The State Government is planning a redevelopment of the nearby Flemington housing estate, which will add extra housing to the area and create an even greater need for community infrastructure to support this additional growth.

We want to make sure that your neighbourhood remains liveable, with enough infrastructure and services to support a creative, active and healthy life.

Flemington Community Hub

A key part of the project will be a design for a new community hub in Debneys Park. This will replace the existing Flemington Community Centre.

With your input, the precinct plan will determine the location for a new hub and what sort of spaces it will include.

It could include space for:

  • education and learning
  • health and social services
  • recreation and sports
  • employment and business support
  • cultural events
  • art spaces
  • performance spaces
  • youth-friendly spaces.

A place to visit, socialise, learn, work, and play!

Get involved

We will be seeking feedback from residents, community groups and other stakeholders at a number of stages throughout the project. This information will build on information that we already have from Flemington residents through past consultations.

Flemington Neighbourhood Advisory Group

The Flemington Neighbourhood Advisory Group consists of members of the community who meet regularly to provide input into projects relating to the whole Flemington neighbourhood. The group will review and feed into project information for the Debneys Park Precinct Plan including the designs.

Advocacy

The project is a key priority in our Advocacy Strategy 2018-21 and MV2040 Strategy and we are seeking support from other levels of government to partner with us to deliver a hub that the whole community can visit and enjoy.
