The Moonee Valley Festival comes to an end in spectacular style with a full day of food, art and entertainment in a grand cultural celebration. Be dazzled with live music, roving performances and pop-up activities for all ages!

Headline performances for the Illuminate the River event include the X Factor’s Isaiah Firebrace, Melbourne-based five-piece Dinner Suit Boogie, soul powerhouse Kattimoni, internationally renowned circus company Gravity & Other MythsTrucked Up aerialist performers, and Melbourne-based all girl acoustic trio Harlow & Hart.

There's plenty on offer for kids with ‘Beasties’ interactive show, the True Fairies storytelling, hula workshops and roving entertainers all afternoon. 

The celebration will continue into the evening with sculptural lanterns of Lantasia by illustrator/designer Tyson Savanah, laser lights and projection art as we close the 2019 Moonee Valley Festival in style!

Getting to and from Illuminate the River

We encourage everyone to travel by public transport as parking is limited at all festival venues. Visit ptv.vic.gov.au to plan your trip. 

Or why not get active and ride your bike. We'll have bike racks and facilities at all events. 

We aim to make all festival events fun and accessible for all members of our community. Accessible facilities will be available.

Shuttle Bus

Take the free shuttle bus from Moonee Ponds train station for an easy way to get down to the action along The Blvd.

Drive or take public transport to Moonee Ponds then jump on the free shuttle service, running from 3pm to 10pm.

The temporary bus zone will depart from Milfray Avenue, adjacent to Moonee Ponds train station.

Isaiah

Isaiah Firebrace

Hailing from just outside Melbourne, along the banks of the Murray River, Isaiah first stepped into the spotlight in 2016 when he was crowned winner of the eighth season of The X Factor Australia. Since then he’s grabbed global attention for his #1 single ‘It's Gotta Be You’, which is now certified Platinum in Australia, 2 x Platinum in Sweden, Gold in Norway and Gold in Denmark.

2017 was a big year for Isaiah; he performed in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final with his single ‘Don’t Come Easy’, toured nationally with his friend and mentor Jessica Mauboy, and completed his first European press junket with stops across Scandinavia, the U.K., Belgium, and France.

Digging deep into the depths of African rhythms and melody, Digital Afrika is pushing forward the frontiers of dance floor orientated Afro House. The production duo play their own tracks live and a finely selected assortment of global dance tracks sourced from New York to Lagos.

Digital Afrika, is the productive powers of Future Roots and Si Fixion. Incorporating live instrumentation, MPC's, African percussion and digital production, Digital Afrika's sound is a dance floor stimulator for any corner of the globe.

Kattimoni

Kattimoni is a powerhouse Melbourne soul artist who uses the power of music to embody universal wisdom, unite diversity and uplift a conscious message of transformation and empowerment and social change. 

Raised on a sonic sustenance of vintage soul, jazz, reggae and blues, Kattimoni's vibrant, free spirited nature radiates through her uplifting, energetic songs, capturing the passion and essence of old-school RnB with driving, deep Funk rhythms, luscious Jazz infused melodies and powerful, raw Soul vocals.

Fronting a fiery nine piece band featuring culturally diverse artists from around the globe and produced by Egyptian guitarist and sought-after sound engineer, Bisho Brown, (Andy Allo, T.S. Monk and YolanDa Brown).


Dinner Suit Boogie

Featuring five core members from Melbourne's deep-rooted soul, jazz and party music scene, the band brings together members of WVR BABY, True Live, Raah Project, Thando, Echo Drama and Slippery Grips. Having performed for a range of events from cocktail parties to all-night dance floor marathons, pub residencies to the big festivals, Dinner Suit Boogie will bring the party energy to Illuminate the River!

It’s easy to forget that This Way North is a two-piece band. Drummer/vocalist Cat Leahy and guitarist/vocalist Leisha Jungalwalla create a uniquely full, expansive sound that translates effortlessly from the studio to the stage. 

The duo was winner of The Age's Music Victoria Awards for Best Regional/Outer Suburban Act (2018).

Chris Commerford

The Chris Commerford Band

Melbourne based singer-songwriter Chris Commerford, summons blues, rock and RnB as a conduit for observation and story-telling. He brings with him on stage “the band” which brings excitement and color to the songs and set which unleash the full potential of his works.

Commerford draws from an eclectic list on influences including Gary Clark Jr, John Mayer, D’angelo, John Butler Trio and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Sweet myrtle

Based in Melbourne, Sweet Myrtle is a jazz duo comprised of Haily Tran and Simon Edgell. Their music arrangements are influenced and inspired by artists such as Melody Gardot, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Norah Jones, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane.

Brendelle

Brendelle is the musical conglomerate of Brendan Forward (ex-Massive) and Estelle Artois (ex-Tequila Mockingbyrd). Following extensive international touring – including around Europe and the UK as well as the Middle East entertaining Australia’s troops - Brendelle have unplugged their electric guitars to bring their love of all genres of music and performance acoustically along with choice percussion instrumentation. Spanning across genres such as jazz, blues, pop and rock, there's a bit of something for everybody in their repertoire.

Lantasia by The Lanternist blends traditional lantern design, sculpture and illustration to create luminous pieces of art. The Maribyrnong River precinct will come to life with magical creatures and native animals illuminate in hidden nooks and spaces. 

The Lanternist is the love child of Melbourne based illustrator/designer Tyson Savanah and partner Evie Wittingslow. Born from a desire to enhance the natural beauty of their family wetlands and gardens in the evenings, and growing to include over 80 individual lanterns. 

Indirect Object

The Indirect Object

The Indirect Object's Fireflies are illuminated, interactive roving puppets that change direction and pivot down to greet the people below them.

Designed to explore tactile surfaces as well as fly, the Fireflies can extend their legs and land high up on a ledge to stand and observe their surroundings.

Brothers in arms

Brothers in Arms are an urban/hip hop dance crew that incorporates cultural and traditional ceremony into their performances to pay tribute to their diverse cultural ties which include West Papua, New Zealand, Tonga, The Phillipines and Australia’s First Nations.

Tahlia Eve is an 18 year old singer, songwriter and performer from Moonee Valley. From a young age, Tahlia discovered a passion for music and the arts and it has become a huge part of her life ever since.

Lauren and Imogen are a local teenage duo that share a passion for music. Lauren, at 16 years old is a budding pianist and Imogen, 15 years old, an up and coming vocalist. They love jamming together and enjoy sharing music whenever they can.

Beasties

Beasties

2pm–3pm, 4pm–5pm, 6pm–7pm

A square cow quacking for biscuits, a squirting pig, a one-eyed blue cat, dancing carrots, giant roaming poo, Beasties is a petting zoo with a difference. Set up to be partly observational and partly interactive, there’s fish birds to feed and Deloras will sing for you if you pat her enough.

There’s also a pair of keepers to oversee the animals, answer your questions, and keep the poo from following you home.

Listen carefully as the fairies read you an enchanted story of ‘Teal the fairy’ who overcomes challenges going on a brave journey to grow her wings and become her true self. An empowering story of gnomes, fairies, elves and magic.

Explore the magical fairy's grotto with giant mushrooms, a bubble wish fountain, a fairy throne for storytelling, cushions and picnic rugs. The fairies will even be there to paint your face and bring the magic to your festival day!

Saturday, 30 March, 5am The Boulevard will be closed between Holmes Road and the carpark at Maribyrnong Park. Holmes Road will be closed between The Boulevard and Bruce Street. Detours in place.
Sunday 31 March, 5am Road and car park closure lifted.

Transfer Station

The Transfer Station will be closed on Saturday, 30 March and will reopen on Sunday, 31 March 8am – 1pm.
