Netball and tennis courts upgrade

Riverside Golf, Tennis and Netball Centre

Council has been hard at work progressing the master plans for Fairbairn Park and the Riverside Golf, Tennis and Netball Centre. We have recently completed a number of projects with more upgrades on the way.

See our 2 year program (pdf, 185KB) for the construction of the courts as well as associated bulidings. Please note that the program will be updated every 6 months to reflect any unanticipated events or issues that may arise.

Works commenced November 2018

Works have started on the new courts and are expected to be completed during April 2019. Below is an update on the works thus far, and what to expect over the coming months.

Progress over the past few months

  • A community advisory group has been meeting monthly and has been providing input into various aspects of the project.
  • We secured $500,000 in State Government funding towards a new multipurpose community facility near the courts.
  • A design and construction firm has been appointed to the project.
  • Users have been informed of the works and we are working in partnership with the nearby clubs and the State Sporting Associations to ensure players can still use nearby facilities during the construction timeframe.

Next steps

We are working on the design of the new multipurpose facilities. We will keep the community updated on this project and you will have opportunities to provide feedback on the draft design.

Impacts during construction

While construction will continue until April 2019, we estimate the main impacts will be during December and then again late January to mid-February. Following these dates, construction impacts should be minimal. If you experience any concerns during construction please email the project team on communityfacilities@mvcc.vic.gov.au

Netball and tennis facilities

We are undertaking a major upgrade at the Riverside Golf, Tennis and Netball Centre to be delivered over the coming years. This project will be delivered in two phases.

Phase one

The first phase of the project will include new facilities to support netball and tennis at the centre and includes:

  • new tennis and netball courts
  • temporary toilets and change rooms
  • additional pedestrian walkways
  • new seating, lighting and fencing
  • landscaping works.

Last year we secured $1.5 million from the State Government towards this phase of the project and we have been working closely with key stakeholders to develop plans for the new courts (pdf, 4.3MB).

We have also established a Project Control Group with representatives from local residents, sports and park users to help guide the project over the coming year.

Phase one of the project is underway and will be completed by the end of April 2019.

Phase two

This phase of the project includes the construction of a new community sports pavilion.

The new community pavilion will provide modern, and accessible change rooms and facilities to support competition and training at the centre as well as space for other community uses. We will provide further updates as the project progresses and we will be seeking your input on the designs next year.

We were successful in receiving $500,000 from State Government to help us to deliver this infrastructure.

Stay up to date

We will be installing two disabled parking bays in the southern car park located near the Riverside Golf and Tennis Centre and will continue to provide updates to residents and park users on all the upgrades happening at Fairbairn Park and we will be seeking your input along the way.
