How the NDIS can help you reach your housing goals

The NDIS has created a factsheet about what supports it will fund in relation to housing.

The NDIS can assist people with disability to live more independently by:

  • funding home modifications to a person’s own home or private rental property. Home modifications are also assessed on a case by case basis for people who live in social housing.
  • funding for assistance with daily living such personal care, such as assistance with showering and dressing and to complete tasks around the home that a person is unable complete due to their disability, such cleaning, laundry and gardening/yard maintenance.
  • funding for supports to improve daily living skills which build people's capacity to live independently in the community. This could include improving living skills, money and household management, social and communication skills and behavioural management.
  • Tenancy support which assists participants in obtaining and maintaining accommodation and/or tenancies where needs arise from a person’s functional impairment.
  • Supported Independent Living (SIL) assists NDIS participants who live with other people to get help from paid support workers in their homes so they can live as independently as possible. This could include help with showering and dressing, tasks around the home and supports that help people stay safe.
All NDIS participants may be eligible for SIL funding, whether they rent privately, own their own home, live with others, or live in specialist disability accommodation.

It is important to remember that if you have these supports will need to be included in your NDIS plan. To find more information around the supports the NDIS refer to the NDIS price guide.
