School crossing supervisors

We manage the placement of school crossing supervisors at sites throughout our municipality as an important component of our Better Moves Around Schools program.

Location of school crossing supervisors

Crossing supervisors are currently located at 66 sites across Moonee Valley (pdf, 337KB)

Funding of school crossing supervisors

Funding of school crossing supervisors is shared between VicRoads and us. Each year we prepare an application for the VicRoads Children’s Crossing Supervisor Subsidy program.

Crossings are eligible for subsidy under this VicRoads program if specific warrants are met (pdf, 27KB).

If sites are ineligible for a subsidy under this VicRoads program, we will consider the full funding of a supervisor following our guidelines.

Guidelines for funding of school crossing supervisors

At the Ordinary Meeting on 11 December 2018, Council adopted the Guidelines for Funding of Crossing Supervisors (pdf, 182KB). The guidelines provide a consistent approach to determine at which sites a school crossing supervisor will be funded fully by us.

The adoption of the guidelines will result in the removal of crossing supervisors from the following three sites at the end of Term 2, 2019:

  1. Padman Lane, Travancore, near Cashmere Street
  2. Pin Oak Crescent, Flemington, near Waltham Street
  3. Waverley Street, Aberfeldie, near Alma Street

The installation of seven new children’s crossing will also be progressed (subject to community consultation) at the following sites:

  1. Bank Street, Ascot Vale, between Ascot Vale Road and Mt Alexander Road
  2. Bellarine Avenue, Keilor East, between Carey Court and Parkside Avenue
  3. Gillies Street, Essendon North, near Keilor Road
  4. Moonee Street, Ascot Vale, between Ascot Vale Road and Mt Alexander Road
  5. Ramsay Street, Aberfeldie, between Clifton Street and Fawkner Street
  6. Roseberry Street, Ascot Vale, between Holdsworth Street and Ferguson Street
  7. St Leonards Road, Ascot Vale, between Holdsworth Street and Ferguson Street
