A big day of pirate fun for the little ones

Monday, 15 January 2018

Keeping the little ones entertained just got a whole lot easier.

Moonee Valley City Council is once again hosting the Little Kids Big Day Out for pre-schoolers and their families on Thursday, 8 February.

Moonee Valley Mayor, Cr John Sipek, said the event is a great way to get out and about with children in one of the city’s newly upgraded parks.

“This free community event is perfect for families to enjoy together as we officially re-open Riverside Park,” Cr Sipek said.

“Families can make the most of the improved play spaces, barbecue facilities and open lawn areas with free activities and entertainment on offer.

“We’ve organised a jam-packed pirate-themed morning of fun, with activities and games to get kids moving, coffee courtesy of Nelson Alexander, fruit from LaManna and pirate entertainment.

“I encourage those with young families to pack lunch and a picnic rug, and come along to the Little Kids Big Day Out. Don’t forget to dress up for the pirate costume parade!”

Portfolio holder for Planning and Environment, Cr Nicole Marshall, said the upgrade of Riverside Park is part of the implementation of the Maribyrnong River Master Plan.

“Community consultations for possible improvements to this park were undertaken in 2015 and we are grateful for everyone who shared their ideas,” Cr Marshall said.

“I look forward to seeing the community make the most of this park.”

The Riverside Park upgrade included the following work:

  • redesigned car park
  • improved play spaces including a new nature play area and additional play elements around the pirate ship
  • improved picnic areas with barbecues
  • drainage and rain gardens to clean run off before it enters the river
  • new paths and seating
  • new trees and garden beds
  • open lawn areas.
