A helping hand to find a home of their own

Monday, 29 October 2018

Council is launching a new information hub to support people with disability to live independently.

A Home of My Own is an online resource which has been developed in partnership with the Summer Foundation to help make searching for a home a little easier.

Moonee Valley Mayor Cr John Sipek said A Home of My Own brings a range of databases and information into one place.

“Home hunting can be difficult and knowing where to look to find the right information can be confusing and overwhelming,” Cr Sipek said.

“A Home of My Own is a one stop shop for people with disability and their carers who are trying to navigate the process of finding an accessible home.”

Portfolio holder for Access, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Cr Cam Nation said Council is committed to supporting people with a disability to live independently.

“This online hub helps people with disability who are looking for homes to find appropriate and suitable accommodation across Moonee Valley,” Cr Nation said.

“It will enable them to access information about support and funding, and find tools and information on how to successfully live independently.”

A series of workshops on developing independent living skills are being planned for next year for people with a disability and their carers.
