Kindergarten application process

Kindergarten applictions for Council and participating community-managed centres are allocated through the Central Registration Service.

This centralised service allows families to indicate their preferences for a number of kindergartens at the one time rather than having to apply for each individual facility.

Key dates for 2020 kindergarten 

4 year old programs

Any changes to applications or new applications received after 31 May 2019 will be processed after the initial round of offers. 

  • Registration period: 1 March to 31 May 2019
  • First round offers made: end of July 2019

3 year old programs

Any changes to applications or new applications received after 31 July 2019 will be processed after the initial round of offers. 

  • Registration period: 3 June to 31 July 2019
  • First round offers made: end of September 2019

Eligibility

Children who will turn three years of age on or before 30 April are eligible to register in a three year old program from term one. Children who turn three years of age on or after 1 May will be eligible to register in a three year old program in the following year.

Children who will turn four years of age on or before 30 April are eligible to register in a State Government funded kindergarten program from term 1. Children who turn four years of age on or after 1 May will be eligible to register in a State Government kindergarten program in the following year.

In Victoria, children cannot attend more than one State Government funded kindergarten program at the same time. 

Applying for kindergarten in 2020

You can apply for 4-year-old sessional kindergarten from 1 March 2019 to 31 May 2019 to be included and considered in the first round of offers. Offers will be made by 31 July 2019. New applications or changes are accepted after 31 May 2019. These will be processed once the first round has been completed.

You can apply for 3-year-old sessional kindergarten from 3 June 2019 to 31 July 2019 to be included and considered in the first round of offers. Offers will be made by 30 September 2019. New applications or changes are accepted after 31 July 2019. These will be processed once the first round has been completed.

Please note that applications are not guaranteed a place in the kindergarten/s and or group of your choice.

The Central Registration Service portal is available for families applying with Moonee Valley for the first time. Families with a current 3 year old child placed in 2019 will be able to reapply through the online parent portal. If you are applying for a second year of 3 year old kindergarten or have previously registered and cancelled the registration please complete a registration form.

When applying online you will need to create an account and will be required to have electronic copies of all the relevant supporting documents to complete the registration. After the application is submitted, you will receive an email confirming the registration.

You will be able to view your child’s current application details, add or withdraw applications, update their details as required, including nominated service preferences, respond to kindergarten offers and make online enquiries.

Contact the Central Registration Team if you believe an account should exist but you don’t have the details or if you have previously rgistered this child for three of four year old kindergarten or the Long Day Care waiting list through the Central Registration Service but do not have a portal log in.

To apply for your child, visit the Central Registration Service portal. This is the quickest and preferred method of registration.

Administration fee payment

A non-refundable fee of $40 is payable for each registration form received for 2020 kindergarten. Payments can be made online by credit card or in person at the Civic Centre. 

Exemption from this administrative fee is provided if the child or parent has an eligible concession card/visa.

Open nights: 4 year old kindergarten 2020

To help you make an informed decision about which kindergartens will best meet your needs in 2020, visit them at one of our open nights throughout February and March. These nights are a chance to check out the facilities and meet the centre staff.

Applications for 4 year old kinder will be accepted from 1 March until 31 May.

Applications for 3 year old kinder open in July. Separate open nights will be held in June for three year old kindergarten. (Prospective three year old parents are welcome to attend the four year old open nights)

How to register for 2019 kindergarten

Registrations for 2019 4 year old kindergarten will be accepted from Monday 5 March 2018.

Registrations for 2019 3 year old kindergarten will be accepted from Monday 2 July 2018.

No Jab, No Play

Under 'No Jab, No Play' legislation, all families need to provide an immunisation status certificate directly to the kindergarten to confirm their child’s enrolment. Council does not require this evidence for your kindergarten registration. For further information visit No Jab No Play.
