A low carbon city

Since 2009, solar PV systems have been installed on 29 council owned and operated buildings, with a total solar generation capacity of 723kW from 2,758 panels. This 723kW of solar generation would meet all the electricity needs of approximately 126 Australian households per year. Combined, these 29 systems save Council:

  • approximately $230,000 annually in avoided utility costs; and
  • 1,100 tonnes of greenhouse gas (carbon) emissions per year.

Clocktower

  • Utility cost savings: approximately $11,500

     

  • Reduction of 55 tonnes of carbon emissions

 

Generate approximately 46,000kWh of electricity per year – approximately enough to fully power six (6) average Australian households.

 

We have also provided grants to a number of sporting clubs to support the installation of up to 100kW of solar PV on sporting pavilions that are owned by Council but operated by the sporting clubs
