Improving accessible parking

Our Accessible Parking Review and Strategy (APRS) was adopted at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 24 November 2015.

Development of the strategy was an action of our Disability Action Plan 2014-23.

The review involved extensive community consultation and an evidence-based audit of existing on-street and off-street accessible parking bays in Moonee Valley. The results of the community consultation are presented in the document Gathering The Evidence (pdf, 4.2MB).

The resulting strategy sets out a prioritised program of upgrades to existing accessible parking bays throughout Moonee Valley.

We are now working progressively with residents and businesses to upgrade more than 200 existing accessible parking bays around shops, parks and other services in Moonee Valley, according to the priority set out in the APRS.

Our aim is to achieve best practice and meet our commitment to ensure people with a disability have the opportunity to use and enjoy local facilities and services.

This is a long-term project. The process to upgrade each accessible parking bay involves detailed planning, design and consultation with the community and external agencies.
