Transition to school & associated programs

Parent forums 2018

Council is hosting three free parent forums to help support children to learn and thrive in their early years.

The forums will be held in partnership with local community healthcare service cohealth for parents of young children.

Join occupational therapists and a speech pathologist to discuss what to expect in your child's development as they move through kinder and transition to school. You will also gain some insight on how to support your child's development at home, along with the chance to ask questions.

The sessions are aimed at parents of young children.

Primary schools

Children start primary school when they turn five years by 30 April of that year. Integrated programs and some assistance is provided to children with additional needs.

Out of school hours care

Most primary schools offer before, after school and school holiday care. Contact schools directly for information on their programs.

The Child Care Benefit is available to most families to reduce program costs.

School based programs

During school holidays, a range of outside of school hours care is provided by the following agencies and based at local primary schools and recreation centres.

See our School Holiday program page for the full event details.

Better Moves around Schools

The Better Moves Around Schools Program brings Council and schools together to improve traffic, safety and parking management, encourage walking, cycling and the use of public transport when travelling to and from school. We work with three schools per year.
